Bijou Square
You can’t miss Bijou Square, especially at night, when the new neon theater sign is lighted. Developers have restored the ornate brickwork on the façade of one of the nation’s earliest movie houses, added a new theater sign, and have successfully recruited tenants who will transform this long-neglected corner of the downtown into a thriving mini entertainment district.
The renovation transforms four existing buildings into three, with reuses that include retail, restaurants, office, and an historic movie house. Tenants include a JR’s Bijou Café, Big Mo’s supper club, the Spotless Mind Café and Kuchma Corporation.
There are plans for additional renovation, including the conversion of the current home of the Schwerdtle Stamp Company into mixed use combining retail and residential condominiums.
