Intermodal Transit Center
The new Intermodal Transit Center will provide single-site access to local buses, intercity bus routes, Amtrak and Metro-North trains. The center will also link to the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry. Airport limousine and taxi service will also be available.
The project consists of several distinct components, including a new 17-bay bus station (including Peter Pan, Greyhound and Trailways service), transit garage, office tower, train station, ferry parking garage and boat slips, entry lobby and pedestrian walkways. The Mechanics & Farmers building will serve as the station entry from Main Street.
The preliminary design and engineering for the new bus station is complete, and $10 million in funding has been awarded by the FTA and the state of Connecticut. The 250,000 square foot office tower, proposed to be built above the transit center, is not yet funded.
Total project cost is estimated at $184 million.
