Downtown North

Downtown North is a five-block area of historic buildings that were saved from the wrecking ball by local preservation groups. The area is a city-designated Historic District that is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The search for a suitable developer led to the selection of Eric Anderson of A&F Commercial Builders, who is combining private investment with housing credits and tax credits to restore the 16 properties of Downtown North (a total of 318,940 square feet) to their former glory.

Work on this ambitious project will begin with the properties at 144 Golden Hill Street. When completed, the area will feature a combination of modern infill structures and restored historic buildings. Uses will include 300 to 350 new market rate residential units, plus 104,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2006.
