Celebrate the Season at the Barnum Museum
December 9 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us at the Barnum Museum for a special presentation by our own Executive Director, Kathy Maher.
As a wonderful diversion from the holiday hustle and bustle, take a fascinating journey back in time to explore holiday festivities of bygone days. Kathy’s presentation will take guests through the remarkable evolution of Christmas celebrations and how the beloved holiday emerged from a blend of cultures, tales, traditions and even the industrial revolution. “Christmas traditions that we connect with today were popularized in England by Queen Victoria in the mid-19th century.”
From the candle-lit illumination of the Christmas tree, to the first manufactured ornaments to adorn the branches, the holiday grew and flourished over time. “For over 100 years, Christmas has been part of American culture and prevailed through a century of redefinition and altering traditions.” Remaining firm in the ideals of family, home and charity, today, we still embrace the nostalgia and romance of bygone times, welcoming and cherishing the spirit of generosity, benevolence and the fellowship of the community.
