Colorful Crew

Volunteer with us – Join the Colorful Crew

Downtown Bridgeport is a commercial area that represents and serves a diverse tapestry of the wider Bridgeport community. It’s our vibrant street level local businesses, residents, public parks, and the cultural offerings in the neighborhood that create connection points that foster the sense of community so special to the Downtown and the city.

Colorful Crew volunteer opportunities encourage small businesses, residents, and office workers to connect and add vibrancy to the Downtown neighborhood, and drives customers to explore and enjoy Downtown. You will have a positive impact on the community and forge connections through that increase feeling of belonging and pride in the neighborhood.

How to Participate:

Beautify Downtown Bridgeport with us! We need help from the Colorful Crew in the following ways:

  • Service Projects: We are looking for school groups, corporate volunteer days, and individuals or citizen groups that would like to add volunteer support to the Colorful Crew’s efforts.

  • Adopt a Planter or Site: We are looking for businesses to sponsor beautification efforts and/or maintain the plantings in the ground planters along Main Street, Broad Street, and around McLevy Green. We can source wholesale price plant materials and assist with installation, when your business commits to maintaining the plantings.

Broad Street Steps

Volunteers are needed to maintain the plantings, including weeding and watering in selected dates, as well as clean and repaint the mural on the stairway steps.

Main Street + McLevy Green

Volunteers are needed to water, weed out, and remove debris from the rectangular planters placed along Main Street and the sides of McLevy Green.

Peacock Alley

Volunteers are needed to water, weed out, and remove debris from the painted planters, as well as repaint the ground mural along the Alley.

Public Art Paint Days: Through our Color It In public art program, in partnership with the City of Bridgeport’s Office of Planning and Economic Development, there are a number of sites that need volunteers interested in painting murals.

Curious about the time commitment? It depends on the project. You can choose one of the ways to participate, do some, or sign up for all. The single service days have set hours, and beautification site maintenance offer regular meet ups when seasonal plantings are in place. You choose!
